Home exercise routine 5 key ways to stay motivated



Starting an exercise routine in your own home is a very effective way for you to keep fit if you have a hectic life style and don't find much time for exercise classes or gyms. A simple home workout routine is far cheaper than paying for costly gym membership fees. However, in case you are unable to muster up enough will power to stick to your keep fit routine then here are some key ways to stay motivated. 

Commit to a period of time to exercise - Jot it down

Staying motivated to exercise can be extremely difficult at times, however, the basic act of noting down times to work out in your own home as part of your day-to-day planner or diary is sufficient to get you rolling and stay committed. If you continually work out at set times during the day, it will start to become habitual. To begin with, you could even set your cell phone to remind you when your exercise is due.

Look at it like an appointment which you have to keep. Whether it is just 10 to 15 minutes of performing an exercising routine per day, it will help to improve your fitness, but you must make sure you increase your exercises once your current routine becomes easy. Just remember, if you stick to your keep fit appointments you will begin to see results. Sometimes setting yourself targets and noting down your progress can help to keep you motivated. 

Multi-Tasking whilst exercising in your own home

Your home exercises can include doing, for example, floor exercises while you watch television to make it seem less like a chore. You can also integrate several physical exercise techniques whilst you set about your usual daily life in your home. For example, whilst cleaning, you can carry out lunges to stretch and firm your thighs. A simple abdominal exercise that is very effective is to tighten your stomach muscles and hold for 10 seconds before releasing. You can do this in sets of 5 to begin with and build up.

Select suitable equipment for your weight loss training routine

Sometimes, setting up a particular area for doing a simple at home workout could be just the thing to jump start your fitness routine. Of course, your workout goals as well as the equipment and training area in your home can have an impact on your choice of exercises.  If you have limited space in your home then opt for equipment such as dumb bells, exercise mats and step tools that can be stored away.

You must keep this in mind when you are considering purchasing exercise equipment. If you intend to spend money on more expensive equipment, for example a bike, treadmill, cross trainer or bench then ensure that you have selected an adequate training space in your home before you make your purchase.

Avoid exercising in your bedroom

Try to avoid placing large exercise equipment in your bedroom as your bedroom should be viewed like your sanctuary i.e. a room for peace, rest and relaxation.


Establish achievable keep fit targets

When creating a workout program, the essential thing to consider is to establish sensible workout goals. If you are unable to incorporate weights using dumb bells as part of a cardio session to burn calories then select exercises that you enjoy and you can cope with. For example keep fit, dance dvds or the wii might be easier and more enjoyable. Try to select ways to work out at home that you will find fun to do and will keep you motivated to exercise regularly and lose weight.
